The Vodlozero National Park was founded in 1991.
Geographical position: The National Park is located on the border of the Karelia and Onega districts of the Archangelsk Region, in the basin of the Vodlzero and Ileksa rivers. The Russian North is a traditional and common name for the Northern regions of the European part of Russia including the Murmansk Region (Kola), the Republic of Karelia, the Arkhangelsk and Vologda Regions.

In the southern part of Siberia the archeologists discovered traces of prehistoric people. These traces can be seen in the blocks of ice. They are pretty well preserved. The traces are about 2500 years old. This sensational discovery was published in the Russian magazine “Ogonek”. The picture of professor Vladimir Syomkin holding the pigtails of an ancient warrior was sent to all Russian research institutes. A warrior, king or commander-in- chief was probably buried together with his horse, furs, utensils, and works of art. On his chest there was a tattoo of an elk made with great skill. These traces were discovered in the area of the Plato Ukok, a highland of the Altai Mountains.
The IMANDRA project is a sports festival event that includes almost all winter sailing sports. But the main feature of the event is a kite competition.
The festival takes place in the second half of April in the North of Russia beyond the Pole Circle on the Kola Peninsula in the town of Monchegorsk, on the ice of the biggest lake of the region – Big Imandra (Bolshaya Imandra). The main activities of the festival include running a super marathon of approximately 100 km. You will have an opportunity to dive into the whirlpool of this spring and windy madness.
