The word Olympian ("olympiets" in Russian) originally referred to the Olympian gods. However, the Moscow Department of Architecture decided that there could be no better name for a hotel built on the eve of the 1980 Olympic Games. That is how one of the numerous hotel complexes built for the games got its proud name.
