Foreign tourists in Moscow
 Over the last eight years the number of foreign tourists coming to Moscow has increased by 2.5 times exceeding 4 million people, said Head of the Moscow Committee of Tourism Grigory Antyufeyev to the journalists on Thursday.
"Here is the overall picture of the increase: The year 1999 - about 1,5 million people came, the year 2007 - 4 million people," said Antyufeyev.
According to Antyufeyev, only the last year increase amounted to 7%. By 2010 nearly 5 million foreign tourists are expected to visit Moscow.
As Antyufeyev reported, aside from planning new traffic routes and placing guide and sign boards in English on the streets and in the subway, Moscow authorities pay much attention to the expansion of hotel facilities.
Now in Moscow there are about 219 hotels with 72 000 bedspaces. The master plan for the development of hotel industry in the capital allows for bringing the number of hotels up to 556 with 180 000 rooms by 2010.
It is also projected to complete in 2008 the construction of, and make available, 28 000 hotels with 6 000 bedspaces in Moscow. These are mainly three-star hotels; two-star hotels are seldom built, said Antufeev.
He also added that every year Russian capital takes an active part in 10-15 large international tourism fairs, exhibitions and shows all over the world.
