President's award
 Yuriy Podkopayev, Executive general manager of National («?????????») Hotel was medaled The Order of Friendship of Peoples on Thursday, April 10, 2008. By presidential Edict 385 dated 22 March 2008 "On Russian Federation State Decoration," Yuriy Podkopayev was conferred Order «For Achieved Success and Many Years of Diligent Work».
Mr. Podkopayev has been head of National Hotel for 20 years. Due to his efforts National was closed for a fundamental reconstruction, which ensured that in 1995 the city once again had its unique historical monument of architecture, known all over the world, in all its glory.
National Hotel today holds a leading position in Moscow hospitality market. Every year the hotel is awarded most prestigious international hospitality industry prizes. Among the latest - 5 Star Diamond Award from the American Hospitality Academy, whose opinion is considered extremely authoritative in the international hospitality market. This is the third time that the Academy nominated Mr. Podkopayev «One of the Best Hoteliers of the World». It is the first time when this high honor was given to a Russian citizen. This fact demonstrates the international success of Russian management.
Order of Friendship is given for great input in strengthening of international friendship and collaboration, high accomplishments in development of economical and scientific potential of Russia, for fruitful activities on rapprochement and mutual enrichment of national cultures and peoples, strengthening peace and friendship between states.
The ceremony was held in Saint Petersburg Ballroom, National Hotel. Mr. Podkopayev received the reward from Head of Federal Agency for Tourism Vladimir Strzhalkovsky. Mr. Strzhalkovsky highly evaluated Podkopayev's accomplishments as the Hotel's General Manager, noting his considerable input in Moscow hospitality market development.
In his reply to the toast Mr. Podkopayev thanked Moscow government and Federal Agency for Tourism for the special attention to the performance and accomplishments of the country's hospitality-tourist industry. "A hotel, - said Podkopayev, - is actually an outpost of strengthening international relationships and the country's standing. A hotel is the first perception of the country when a foreigner comes. And the impressions that he gets from his stay, from the service, and hospitality become the basis for the image of the city and the country as a whole. As far as reception of high-ranking governmental delegations is concerned, the hotel is also a very important link in strengthening relationships at the highest level. Multiple comments, made by Presidents and Heads of government delegations, on the considerable role of National Hotel in cross-governmental negotiations serve proof to the fact. He also stated that the Order of Friendship belongs to the whole team of National Hotel. "Without the team of associates I wouldn't have gained these results," said Podkopayev.
