The reasons for the collapse of the tower of The Ukraine hotel disclosed
The Moscow Cultural Heritage Committee has announced the reasons of the collapse of a Ukraina Hotel tower. According to the representatives of the Committee, defects faults in te costruction were made in the fifties of the last century.
The Committee Deputy Chairman Alexander Filyaev said that the building had been constructed in a rush and low-quality materials had been used. "Most likely it was due to the fact that this was the last high-rise. It was necessary to deliver it in 1956 so as to finish the construction by 1957".
However, President of the Russian Union of Architects of Yury Gnedovsky does not agree with Filyaev. He was a student at that time and still remembers all the circumstances of erecting the building.
The construction concept of this building is very powerful and durable, Gnedovsky said. - A similar collapse could not have occurred without any unless subsequent reasons came into play. For example, repairs, leakages or any other external conditions could be a reason. But the constructors and architects of the building are not to be blamed for the collapse.
However, the deputy head of Dorogomilovsky District Construction Council Andrey Kotsuba confirmed that serious repairs in the building have not taken place yet. Only the old equipment, the plumbing, cases and floor coverings have been removed.
The inhabitants of the high-rise support the Gnedovsky. They also believe that the hotel tower fell due to the activities of the new owners.
Elena Kortunova is one of the inhabitants. She is at a loss. According to her, construction waste and debris were removed. "We do not understand where all of that could could come from, if minimum work was carried out", she said.
Lyubov Mikhailova, who also lives at this place, believes that unqualified migrant workers worked here. They do not care about their work -- be it an architectural monument or a usual building. They only have one goal: To earn as much money as possible, with minimal expenses.
The collapse of the tower is not the only accident that has occurred inside the building. For example, at the beginning of the hotel reconstruction there happened a strong fire outbreak which affected the underground. Because of this the telephones in the building did not work for some time and electric power was disconnected.
Soon the new owners will receive official repair permits. Tenants of the house are afraid that they will face new unpleasant surprises.
