In 1950-80 over 20 hotels were constructed in the area of the Botanic Garden and the National Exhibition Center, in the north-east of Moscow. This host of hotels in the green district with a good infrastructure was intended to receive participants of numerous sports days, games of good will, all-union exhibitions, international festivals and other events.
The Hotel Cosmos was designed and built by French architects in 1979, on the threshold of the Olympics. Though planned by Frenchmen, the hotel was built according to Soviet standards which were more demanding, that's why it is distinguished by a great level of security.
Unlike 5-storey multiple- unit hotels Zarya, Tourist, etc., Kosmos is a 25-storey building in the shape of a horseshoe. During the Olympics, the Olympic press-center and other institutions were located here. Cosmos has hosted many mass events: Youth and Students Festival, TV shows Morning Star, The Song of The Year, competition Crystal Castle; casting of TV project National Artist in 2004, and shooting of a new serial In Tango Rhythm (feat. Natalia Oreiro).
The hotel has received such notable guests as Joe Dassin, Alla Pugacheva, Garry Kasparov, and others. At present the place attracts Russian and foreign tourists, business travelers and visitors of various exhibitions.
The Hotel Cosmos has become a prize-winner in many competitions in hotel business. Among the recent achievements is a diploma "For Contribution to the Development of International Tourism in Moscow", 1998.
In the course of work the hotel Cosmos, Moscow has become many times a laureate of various contests in the hotel and hospitality sphere. The most recent award was the certificate "For great contribution into development of foreign tourism in Moscow" in 1998.

Accommodation fund of the Cosmos Hotel consists of 1777 rooms of various categories from standard rooms to VIP-apartments including 154 Cosmos Club accommodations. The rooms of the hotel overlook the Losiny Ostrov and Botanic Gardens; right opposite the hotel overtops the Ostankino TV-Tower. There are non-smoking rooms. The buffet style breakfast, baggage carrying and the safe are included into the room rates.
The Cosmos Hotel in Moscow is located in a relatively young part of the Russian capital, the true history of which started only in the second half of the 20th century. Quite a number of the city landmarks are situated right next to the hotel, including the Exhibition of the People's Achievements (VDNKh), which was designed to be a miniature image of Soviet lifestyle; the Ostankino television tower, and the famous monument "Rabotchy i Kolkhosnitca" (A Worker and Collective Farmer), which is the symbol of the Mosfilm movie-making company. In the vicinity of the Cosmos hotel, the name of which is translated as "space", are the Space museum and the impressive 99-meter high obelisk to the Explorers of Space. Visitors will also enjoy an opportunity to visit the State Botanical Garden and the memorial estate of count Sheremetyev. The Olympijsky sports complex is within a 5-minute subway ride from the hotel.
It will take you about 15 to 20 minutes to get downtown from the nearest metro station (VDNKh) and approximately the same time to get to the city's railway stations. The road to the Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airports takes about an hour and the Vnukovo airport is located within a 1.5-hour drive.
