What if the Hotel You've Booked is Not What You've Expected?

How To Handle Disappointment With Your Moscow Hotel

In most instances guests should not be disappointed with the Moscow hotel they might have chosen or been recommended by an agent. There is however inevitably the possibility that you happen to be the one in a million who feels let down by the hotel in which you have been accommodated. Perhaps because you meet friends staying at another hotel who appear to be better off than you. If that is the case there are a number of ways in which to handle the situation without losing money.

If you have been placed at a hotel by an agent the first thing to do is list your complaints about the hotel, especially those things that do not meet the standards included in the hotel’s promotion. Next contact your agent and explain your disappointment and why the hotel does not meet the expected standards advertised. It is not in the agent's interest to ignore your complaint if they wish to avoid a repeat of your dissatisfaction. In the majority of cases an agent should have sent a representative to the hotel in which you are placed on their recommendation and thereby ensured that what the hotel says about itself is correct. Your reason for contacting the agent is negotiate a move to a more appropriate hotel, if you can gain the agent’s support it will help make things happen more easily and also reduce the possibility of you losing money. After the agent has listened to your complaint and your desire to be moved to another hotel ‘the ball is in their court’ to ensure this happens. The agent should be able to suggest another more fitting hotel as well as be in a position to ensure that your move is as seamless as possible. However should the agent disagree with your complaint or not wish to take up the issue on your behalf you will need to consider how you go about resolving your situation by approaching the hotel management as a next step. You will need to take up the issue with the agent upon your return.

The hotel management will obviously not be pleased by your complaints and will likely want to ensure that if possible your criticisms are dealt with quickly and as quietly as possible. However if the reasons that you cannot remain at the hotel are so strong and justifiably credible the hotel management may be willing to return some of your payment. Additionally if you want to leave the hotel prematurely the management may argue that a full refund is out of the question on the grounds that your booking was for a set period something that might not be negotiable. Certainly the likelihood is that any refund will be limited. In addition should you decide to opt for this strategy without the support of the agent then finding another more suitable hotel will also rest with you.

Whatever path you choose your holiday will not be as memorable for all the right reasons as you might have hoped and that would be a shame because Moscow does have many splendid things for the tourist to see and do.
