When you travel overseas, or to any other country, the whole point of traveling is to take in the sights, and culture, that is native to that country. On one hand you have the beauty and charm of the older Moscow hotels but on the other hand you have the familiarity of staying in a chain hotel that you have stayed in other parts of the world.
When Staying In Moscow Do You Go Local Or Chain?

In a way the city of Moscow is eliminating its own old world charm and many of the owners of the older hotels that are still standing are worried that Moscow is changing its identity too fast. So the feeling is that you may want to enjoy the older Moscow hotels while they are still standing because the old hotel of your choice may be demolished to make way for a new luxury hotel soon.

Add to that the fact that the mission for many of the older hotels in Moscow is to maintain their old world charm but still being able to offer state of the art accommodations and you have a very tempting choice.
The new luxury hotels offer many things that the older hotels do not, and cannot, offer. While many of the old hotels are upgraded to state of the art facilities the fact still remains that they were not originally designed to have those types of features. Performance, and convenience, can suffer in a case like that. The new luxury hotels are built state of the art from the ground up and they offer all of the new age amenities that any traveler would want. The other appealing aspect of the new luxury hotels is their Western look and feel. Even people from Moscow sometimes want to know what it is like to live in the lap of Western luxury and these new luxury hotels offer everyone that opportunity.
So where to stay when in Moscow? If you are traveling to Moscow to get a feel for the old world flair the city has then I strongly urge you to stay in one of the updated older hotels. They offer old world feel and charm along with state of the art facilities. If you figure you will want to have some of that Western luxury feeling to your trip then try the new luxury chain hotels built by Western companies. Either way you will not be disappointed.
